Hello, and welcome to Browdering.com. My name is David Browder. I am a physical therapist, private practice owner, author and teacher.
Over the past few years I have had an unbelievable opportunity in my role as a faculty member and now program director for Evidence In Motion’s Executive Program in Private Practice Management. I have been able to spend the past 5 years learning about the owners of over 300 private practices and their businesses. In the process of staying connected with many of our alumni, I came to the conclusion that the topic of leadership and management is just not something that has received enough attention.
I started this blog because this is an area that I am passionate about. The purpose of ‘browdering’ is to allow me a place to write about all the things I am learning as well as to drive discussions so that I can learn from you. I hope that the strange confluence of my background as an Air Force Academy graduate and Air Force physical therapist will combine with my experiences as an educator and private practice owner to create interesting content. Most of all, I hope that I can connect with other practice owners and help to create profitable paths for private practice physical therapy in what I think will be a challenging healthcare environment.
My friend Chris Stanley came up with the name ‘Browdering’ as I crowdsourced blog name ideas to my Facebook network. He even gave it a definition! This was perhaps one of the best compliments I’ve ever received and seemed to capture the essence of my mission… so I went with it.
Here are a few things about me:
I am a follower of Christ.
I have a wonderful wife (Alexis) and two amazing boys (Austin – 10) and (Blake – 6).
I live in Austin, TX – and it really is as cool as you’ve heard it is.
I have an abundance mentality. That means that I believe there is enough for all of us and that ‘a rising tide lifts all boats’.
I am an optimist at heart. Don’t be surprised if I try to make the best of even the worst situation.
I have an opinion about almost everything, am likely to share it, and might change it.
I don’t feed the trolls. (This means that if you are mean and nasty I probably won’t publish your comment).
I want to get to know you – please leave comments and connect with me on Facebook and Twitter.
I owe a debt of gratitude to many people, including my mentors: the late Richard Erhard, Larry Benz, Robert Wainner and John Childs.
But what do I do?
I am a partner and Regional Director for Texas Physical Therapy Specialists in Austin, TX and the surrounding area.
Our private practice has been published in ‘Best Places to Work’ lists in 2011, 2012 and 2013 and was the PPS Best Practice in 2010.
I am the program director for Evidence in Motion’s Executive Program in Private Practice Management and Institute for Managerial Leadership.
I am a diamond rank coach with Team BeachBody. I’m proud to have helped a bunch of people reach their health and fitness goals.
I completed all 90 days of P90X, permanently dropped 25 pounds and cut my cholesterol in half. Please ask me about it.
I was a distinguished graduate from the US Air Force Academy, class of 1997. (Keep it Revvin’)
I served 11 years as an active duty Physical Therapist.
I deployed to Iraq in 2005. Despite the difficulty of being away from family it was one of the best professional experiences of my career.
I’ve been teaching continuing education courses since 2002.
I’ve got 4 degrees, from three different universities – but thanks to Alexis all my clothes are burnt orange.
